Masters of Invention, Lettering Art Centre, Suffolk
24th March - 29th May
A new collection of paintings and sculpture by some of the most influential graffiti artists of the past 40 years combined with unseen sketches and photographs, to build a powerful picture of 40,000 years of creative – and often audacious - handmade lettering.
Masters of Invention – Adventures in Graffiti art and Writing culture, presents visitors to the Lettering Arts Centre with a unique opportunity to explore writing culture within the history of creative mark making, contemporary art and graphic design. The show will feature paintings, photography, previously unseen sketches and theoretical texts from the culture’s pioneers as well as leading artists from today’s art scene.
Highlighting the contributions of those who have taken the art form into new and interesting spaces, Masters of Invention is a unique visual history of a letterform that has evolved from humble beginnings, into a highly complex and sophisticated form of design practice.
